NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană, today (Saturday 3 September 2022) joined a panel at the Cernobbio Forum, organised by The European House – Ambrosetti at the Villa d’Este, Italy. He discussed NATO’s new Strategic Concept, the challenges to Europe’s security, and the strong partnership developed between NATO and the European Union in many domains.
The panel was chaired by Esko Aho, former Prime Minister of Finland. The other panellists were Lorenzo Guerini, Italian Minister of Defense; Tom Ridge, former American Secretary of Homeland Security; and Federico Rampini, columnist for Corriere della Sera.

Earlier this year, Allies agreed to enhance NATOâs presence in the east of the Alliance by establishing four new multinational battlegroups in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia (in addition to the existing battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, which have been in place since 2017). From 16 to 18 September 2022, the Allied Chiefs of Defence gathered for their annual conference, in Tallinn, Estonia. For the first time, Finland and Sweden attended the Military Committee Conference as NATO Invitees. Around 1,500 military and civilian personnel from NATO and partner countries are gathering in Portugal this month for two maritime exercises aimed at testing the interoperability of new maritime unmanned systems. Both exercises are being held in areas around the Troia Peninsula.Läs hela nyheten här
